somebody just put their body on the line over a burt project and /tv/ is also mad about john

so it's august 3rd and /tv/ has entered a new phase of the burt discourse and things are, somehow, getting weirder.

it started with a flop prediction. per a thread surfacing monday morning, one poster declared the project "flopsday" and offered what can only be described as a stakes-based guarantee: if the film does not flop, they will, verbatim, perform a sex act on camera and post it to the board. this is a level of conviction that most people reserve for sports bets or cults. the thread is titled accordingly.

but the flop bet is almost the calm part. a second thread, timestamped august 3rd, pivots to what appears to be a performance critique of burt's character in the film, centered on a person named john. the poster's position, stated flatly, is that the character should have been "screaming and crying on camera" and his failure to do so means, in the poster's read, that he simply did not care about john. the poster calls him a selfish bastard. this is either very engaged film criticism or the specific kind of parasocial investment where a person forgets they are watching a movie. possibly both.

the actual clip or scene being referenced is not attached to the thread, so the john situation remains unresolved for outside observers. what is clear, per the thread, is that burt's character's composure read as absence of feeling to at least one person on /tv/, and that person has opinions about it.

then on august 2nd, a third thread emerged asking why burt's character faces zero repercussions across what the poster describes as "nearly every episode" of apparent harassment and on-set misconduct, including an allegation that the character stated on camera that he had sexual relations with his boss. the poster frames this as something that would have gotten the character fired even in the 90s and references dozens of HR complaints from what appears to be a truncated post. the thread cuts off mid-sentence, which is genuinely very fitting for the content.

taken together these three threads represent something of a tonal shift in how /tv/ is engaging with burt's film work. the previous wave was mostly about whether the casting was legitimate, whether the cinematography held up, and various credential-based roasting. this wave is getting into the actual character, the emotional stakes, the fictional workplace consequences, and now apparently personal financial-adjacent wagers involving the poster's own body.

whether the john grievance, the performance critique, and the flop bet are all about the same project is not confirmed by any of the threads. the burt film universe now contains at least three known titles: disclosure day, zoo2pia, and citizen vigilante, per earlier /tv/ archaeology. which one has a john in it is not yet established.

what is established is that /tv/ is still watching. still arguing. still making promises nobody asked them to make.

anyway. john deserved better and so did everyone in that thread.
