Jackass Is Archiving Bam Margera. Fishtank Is Actually Using Him.

Jackass is over. Bam Margera is not.

Polygon reported in May that the director of "Jackass: Best and Last" has said, definitively, that this is the end of the franchise. Around the same time, documents reviewed by this publication confirm that Bam signed a deal to appear in that film exclusively via archival footage. Not new stunts. Not a cameo. Old tape. He is, in the eyes of that production, a historical artifact.

Consider what that actually means. The franchise that gave Bam Margera his entire cultural existence has decided the best version of him is a past version of him. Frozen. Safe. Already filmed.

And then consider what Fishtank did. They put him in the house on Season 4, day 11, with skate ramps in the living room and a chat full of strangers sending him TTS messages, and according to Jet, he had such a good time that he came back the next day. Then they made him the host of Season 5. First season without Sam Hyde as full-time host. They handed it to the guy Jackass had essentially archived.

That is not a small thing. The Jackass deal is, at its core, a studio saying: we want the nostalgia of Bam, not the liability of Bam. Fishtank made the opposite call. They wanted the current, living, unpredictable version. The one who will actually show up and skate in your house.

Whether that bet pays off is a separate question. But there is something genuinely clarifying about the contrast. One institution is closing its books on him. Another one opened a door. The archival footage deal tells you exactly how Hollywood has decided to think about Bam Margera. The Fishtank hosting gig tells you he had other options.

Jackass: Best and Last will probably be fine. The archival Bam will probably be charming. But the version of this story that matters is the one where a guy who got edited out of his own legacy found somewhere else to be.
