Amy Klobuchar and Angie Craig Just Made the Minneapolis Event Everyone's Problem
Two prominent Minnesota Democrats publicly condemned Hasan Piker on the eve of his planned appearance with Ilhan Omar. The streamer has not, apparently, cancelled anything.
Darlings, the party is attempting an intervention and the guest of honor has not RSVP'd to his own cancellation.
On October 19, Jewish Insider reported that Senators Amy Klobuchar and Representative Angie Craig issued public condemnations of Hasan Piker ahead of his planned Minneapolis event alongside Ilhan Omar. Not a quiet phone call. Not a leaked background grumble. A named, on-record condemnation. The audacity to make them say it out loud.
Pull back four days. On October 15, a DSA lawmaker booked the Minneapolis event, slotting Piker onto a stage with one of the most recognizable progressive figures in the country. At the time it read like a local scheduling decision. By October 19 it had become a two-senator problem, which is not a sentence most Twitch streamers ever get to generate.
And if this feels familiar, it is because it is. The pattern has been running on a loop for a week solid: a Democrat with something to lose publicly distances themselves from Piker, another Democrat with different calculations books him anyway, and the whole cycle generates another forty-eight hours of cable chatter. The anonymous Democratic congresswoman who allegedly called him "dangerous" on October 17 was the first domino. Klobuchar and Craig are simply the next two, and they have names attached.
What does the condemnation actually say, specifically? Per Jewish Insider, Craig and Klobuchar criticized Piker ahead of the event, which in the current climate means the rhetoric, the Houthi commentary, the general extended portfolio of statements that News24 was calling "outrageous podcast comments" as recently as October 18. Allegedly outrageous. We are professionals here.
The Ilhan Omar angle is doing a lot of work in this story. Omar has survived more political weather than almost anyone in that chamber. Appearing alongside Piker is, for her, presumably a considered choice. For Klobuchar, who has spent a career threading a particular Minnesota moderate needle, publicly objecting is equally considered. Two Democrats from the same state, reading the same room, arriving at opposite conclusions. A journey.
The event has not, per available reporting, been cancelled. Piker has not, per available signal, expressed distress. He did not cancel after the first congresswoman. He did not cancel after Fox News ran four pieces in three days. He is not, one suspects, cancelling now.
Meanwhile, and we must report what the internet surfaces, a clip circulated on r/LivestreamFail on October 19 allegedly showing Piker contemplating a TRT, trenbolone, and anavar stack because he is, per the clip, starting to feel old. A pivot. The man who is currently a two-senator diplomatic incident is also, allegedly, in the research phase of a steroid cycle. We wish him strength in this trying time of his own making, in every possible sense.
Keep receipts, my loves, because the Minneapolis event is still on the calendar and Klobuchar just handed every outlet in the country a quote. The scorecard when the dust settles will be: did the condemnation shrink the crowd or sell out the venue? History on this particular streamer suggests the answer, and it is not the one the senators are hoping for.
