kai cenat bought a hat and the internet had a full day about it
a college paper declared him a fashion killer. a reddit thread noticed reaction creators are running out of reasons to react. it's the same story.
two things happened in the last few days that are technically unrelated and are also completely the same thing. a student publication at wake forest called old gold and black ran a piece titled "fashion is dead, and kai cenat killed it," which is a sentence somebody typed and published. separately, a reddit thread in r/lowtiergod pointed out that duu, a reaction content creator, has allegedly gotten so strapped for material that he will post a full reaction video to kai cenat purchasing a new hat within 24 hours of the hat existing.
per the old gold and black piece, the argument is roughly what it sounds like: kai cenat's style choices have allegedly reshaped what's considered current in certain spaces, and not necessarily in a direction the writer approves of. the piece frames this less as a compliment and more as a cultural autopsy. chat, this is a college newspaper doing a postmortem on streetwear because of a twitch streamer. the lore grows.
the reddit thread lands differently. the original poster's complaint isn't really about kai cenat at all. it's about the gravitational pull kai generates for smaller creators who have apparently decided that anything he does, including purchasing headwear, constitutes a content event worth a full upload. the post describes this as "not even interesting shit" and specifically frames it as clout-chasing off a top streamer rather than genuine commentary. several replies in the thread appeared to agree, with some noting this is a structural problem with reaction content in general and others pointing out that if the audience wasn't clicking, duu wouldn't be posting.
what both of these have in common is that they are not really about kai cenat. they are about the ecosystem that has formed around him. the college fashion piece is a media studies essay dressed up as style criticism. the reddit thread is a parasocial economy complaint. kai cenat himself has not commented on either, which is correct behavior.
the hat, for what it's worth, was covered separately. we already ran that one.
anyway. somewhere out there a reaction creator is rendering a video about this article.
