from kick streamer to international headline: the clavicular arraignment media wave, mapped
the mary sue. brisbane times. winnipeg. a barking dog. here is what the global press corps got right, what they got wrong, and what nobody actually knows yet.
the arraignment happened thursday. by friday it was in australia. by saturday it was everywhere that has a website and an opinion about looksmaxxing. chat, this is no longer a streaming story.
here is what we know and what we don't.
what outlets are covering this. the list as of october 24 includes, but is not limited to: the mary sue, complex, usa today, the independent, brisbane times, yahoo news, wplg local 10, masslive, boston 25, citynews winnipeg, aol.com, and news radio 105.5 werc out of birmingham, alabama. a looksmaxxing streamer's cape cod arraignment is now a birmingham, alabama radio news story. let that settle.
what the coverage mostly agrees on. braden 'clavicular' peters, 20, appeared at a massachusetts courthouse on october 22, pleaded not guilty to rape charges, filed a motion to dismiss, and brought a dog. the dog barked, per multiple accounts. the not guilty plea and the motion to dismiss are confirmed across outlets. the dog is not disputed.
what varies between outlets. framing. the mary sue and the independent leaned into the looksmaxxing context pretty hard. masslive and boston 25 treated it closer to a straight court brief. complex led with the dog. all of them are technically correct. none of them had to cover camp looksmax, xavier, the fart spray lawsuit, or the qtcinderella tweet to write their piece, and most didn't. the lore gap between local court reporters and extremely online readers is, at this point, geologically significant.
what we still don't know. the motion to dismiss has not been ruled on. no trial date has been set per available reporting. the dog's name remains unconfirmed across all seventeen outlets that mentioned it.
what the global press wave means for the case. nothing, legally. it means something for the streamer-to-household-name pipeline, which is now apparently a two-day process if you bring an animal to your arraignment.
anyway. the dog remains the most covered individual at that courthouse who has not entered a plea.
