A Fox News Host Is Defending Hasan Piker Now. A Democrat Is Calling Him Dangerous. This Is Fine.
Jesse Watters rode to the streamer's rescue while a Democratic congresswoman called her own party reckless for embracing him. The scoreboard has never been more confusing.
The political compass has officially eaten itself.
Per a clip covered by Primetimer, Jesse Watters, of Fox News, defended Hasan Piker over his language this week. Piker's reported reaction, per the same coverage: "Am I dreaming?" Darlings, we are all dreaming. None of this is real.
And yet it gets richer. On the very same day, according to Yahoo News, a Democratic congresswoman publicly called out her own party for embracing what she described as a "dangerous" Piker. No Republican needed. The left brought the receipts on itself.
So let us hold both of these facts at once. A primetime Fox host is going to bat for the man his own network has published approximately eleven pieces about in the last ten days. A sitting Democratic member of Congress is doing the opposition research Fox couldn't land. The audacity of the calendar.
And if this feels familiar, it is because Piker has spent the better part of this midterm cycle becoming everyone's problem simultaneously. Fox declared him the breaking point of the Democratic Party. NPR said he was not worried. A Senate debate in Georgia invoked his name. He was a character in the Ziwe interview and then he wasn't. Russian bots allegedly dinged his viewership and he survived that too.
The congresswoman's "dangerous" label is the one that should actually sting, strategically. Republican attacks slide off a man who has made his entire brand out of being the thing they hate. A Democrat saying it publicly, on the record, is a different category of problem. That one leaves a mark.
As for Watters, we wish him well in processing whatever is happening in his psyche right now. We truly do.
Piker is currently the only political figure in America being simultaneously defended by Fox News and attacked by House Democrats. My loves, that is not a problem. That is a brand deal without the brand deal.
He will post about it tonight, get 40,000 concurrent viewers, and by Monday someone else will have a new opinion about what he means for November. Prediction: the congresswoman gets asked about it on cable news within 72 hours and regrets the segment immediately.
