4chan Calls Sam Hyde a 'Soul Destroyer' in Latest /tv/ Broadside
A new thread on the board that loves to hate him just added a fresh charge to the file: that Hyde and his whole aesthetic are a government-grade demoralization tool. Sure, Jan.
Darlings, the 4chan-to-Fishtank pipeline never fully closes, and this week it cracked open again with a new flavor of accusation.
A June 26th thread on /tv/ (the gift that keeps on giving) didn't just mention Sam Hyde in passing. It placed him on a curated list of cultural rot alongside RLM's Best of the Worst, Doug Walker, MST3K, and cult distributor Vinegar Syndrome, arguing that the shared "so bad it's good" sensibility is, quote, "terrible for the soul" and one of the tactics used to "demoralize a population."
What the thread actually says. Per the archived post, the framing is a cultural critique rather than a personal attack. Hyde is named as a practitioner of irony-poisoned media, grouped with creators and companies whose whole brand is loving trash. The OP offered readers a binary choice labeled "Option A or O" without spelling out what either option is. Classic /tv/.
Is this a new accusation? Not exactly. Hyde has been name-dropped in /tv/ threads twice in the past month alone, per MAFKR's own coverage. The demoralization angle is new, though. Previous threads were about his popularity relative to Speed or just general chaos. This one is ideological, which is a level up in the persecution-complex Olympics.
What Hyde has said about any of this. Nothing on record. And if this feels familiar, it's because Hyde has historically treated outside criticism as either beneath comment or as raw material for the next Fishtank bit. Allegedly.
What we don't know. Whether the thread got any real traction, what "Option A or O" was even gesturing at, and whether Hyde is aware of or amused by being listed next to Doug Walker of all people. Doug Walker.
Why it matters, barely. It doesn't move the needle on Fishtank's production or Hyde's standing in any measurable way. What it does do is show that a corner of the internet is actively constructing a critical framework around the "so bad it's good" genre and Hyde is now the living face of it, for better or worse.
My loves, being named a demoralization psyop by an anonymous 4chan poster is either the worst thing that's ever happened to your reputation or the best possible advertisement. Knowing Hyde, he'd call it both and charge you $29.99 to find out which.
