The Hill's Robby Soave, writing for the Rising segment, declared that Ziwe "destroyed" Piker and added a "bravo" that you could practically hear being slow-clapped. Soave's read, per his piece, is that Ziwe's interview style exposed contradictions in Piker's politics that Piker's usual friendly-streamer appearances tend to paper over. A comedian did what cable news could not.

That framing is doing a lot of work for a certain kind of audience, and predictably that audience ran with it. Reactions from the right-leaning commentary sphere landed squarely on the "finally someone got him" side of the ledger, treating the interview as confirmation of everything they've been saying for months about Piker's alleged champagne-socialist inconsistencies. On the other side, Piker's defenders are pushing back on the "destroyed" characterization pretty forcefully, arguing that Ziwe's interview format is intentionally absurdist and designed to make everyone look ridiculous, which is, to be fair, kind of her whole brand. The argument is that calling this a destruction misreads the bit entirely. Now people are media critics.

Meanwhile, separately, Fox News is circulating a story tying Piker to a New York socialist candidate's comments about an ICE shooting, with the framing that Piker allegedly said the victim's criminal record is irrelevant to the story. That one is still percolating through the right-media ecosystem as of this morning, according to Fox News's own coverage, and it has the potential to become its own separate news cycle if the El-Sayed camp decides they have opinions about it.
