The Throne Moves: A Belgian Influencer Has Reportedly Overtaken MrBeast as the World's Most-Watched YouTuber
According to reporting out of Brussels, Celine Dept now sits atop the platform's viewership rankings. Here is what we actually know, and what we do not.
There are weeks when nothing happens, and days when decades happen. This, apparently, was one of the latter.
According to VRT, the Belgian public broadcaster, influencer Celine Dept has overtaken Jimmy Donaldson, known professionally as MrBeast, as the world's most-watched YouTuber. VRT reported the development on July 2, 2026. The report did not specify the precise viewership window used, the methodology behind the ranking, or whether the measurement reflects total watch hours, monthly views, or some other metric entirely. This publication has not independently verified the underlying data. What we have is a claim, attributed to a credible national broadcaster, that the man who has dominated this conversation for years no longer sits at the top of it.
To understand why this matters, one must sit with what MrBeast's viewership has represented: not just a number but an argument, repeated endlessly in press profiles and Forbes rankings and his own public statements, that scale at this level was essentially a personal monopoly. Forbes reported his earnings at $300 million as recently as June 24. The argument was that no one could touch him on the metrics that matter most to the advertising economy that funds all of this. That argument now has a counterexample, at least according to VRT.
The receipts, such as they are, in order of what can actually be sourced:
- VRT's report (July 2, 2026): Belgian public broadcaster VRT states, without apparent qualification, that Celine Dept has overtaken MrBeast as the world's most-watched YouTuber. The outlet does not appear to have published a methodology alongside the claim, according to what this correspondent could review.

- Separate, unrelated item from Sherdog (July 2, 2026): Undefeated UFC fighter Abdul-Rakhman Yakhyaev has apparently responded publicly to claims that he resembles MrBeast. Sherdog reported this. It is not connected to the viewership story. It is, however, a document of the degree to which the name now attaches itself to things.
That last item is worth holding for a moment. A professional fighter in a combat sport feels compelled to address a comparison to a YouTube content creator. That is what total cultural saturation looks like from the outside. It does not necessarily mean the saturation is permanent.
And yet. The specific claim from VRT, if it holds under scrutiny, represents something that Drew Gooden's challenge and the Feastables legal drama and every other piece of negative coverage this year did not quite manage to produce: a concrete, named rival sitting above him on the chart that built him.
History will note that nobody saw the threat coming from Belgium. Nobody ever does.
