The James Charles Google News Feed Now Reaches Back to 2013, and the Tati Drama Just Showed Up in It

As of August 27, 2026, the Google News feed indexed under YouTube creator James Charles's name has been confirmed to contain content published as far back as June 3, 2013. That date belongs to an obituary for one James Charles Huston, filed by Flanner Buchanan funeral home and surfacing in the feed thirteen years after its original publication. The finding moves the feed's documented floor from April 2024, the previous low-water mark established in an earlier audit, back by roughly eleven years.

The same batch introduced a new category of result. Two articles from May 2019, both concerning the creator's public dispute with fellow YouTuber Tati Westbrook, appeared in the feed alongside the funeral listings. They represent, as far as the audited record shows, the first time content about the actual YouTube creator James Charles has surfaced in this feed.

The pre-2024 archive

The entries span eight separate years prior to 2024. In order of publication:

1. June 3, 2013: James Charles Huston, Flanner Buchanan.
2. February 12, 2014: James Charles Anderson, Lasting Tributes Cremation and Funeral Care.

8. May 22, 2020: James Charles Leager, Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home.
9. March 4, 2021: James Charles "Jim" Lane, Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
10. August 24, 2021: James Charles Larkin, Klein Funeral Homes.
11. October 18, 2023: Christopher James Charles Poulos, Whitney and Murphy Funeral Home. The name construction here differs from every other entry in the collection: "James Charles" appears as the subject's middle name rather than his first two. Whether Google's indexing logic treats that as an equivalent match is not documented.

For the record, the April 2024 floor was itself considered a notable data point when it was established. The current floor predates it by almost exactly a decade, and the combined result is a feed drawing from at minimum fourteen calendar years of indexed material.

The first creator-relevant results

The Tati Westbrook entries require separate treatment because they are structurally unlike anything else in the documented feed history. The first is an ABC7 Bay Area article published May 12, 2019, which reports that James Charles's YouTube subscriber count fell by approximately two million after Westbrook posted a public video addressing him. The second is a BuzzFeed article published May 19, 2019, which covers what it describes as the conclusion of that dispute.

Both pieces concern the creator the feed is nominally indexed under. Every other result in the documented record, going back to the oldest entries now surfacing, has concerned a different person who shares the name James Charles. The obituaries, the arrest reports, the estate notice, the sports article, the garbled apparent-spam entries, and the tribute walls all belonged to namesakes. The 2019 pieces do not.

The Westbrook dispute was extensively covered at the time. The subscriber loss reported by ABC7 occurred across roughly one week in May 2019. That coverage is now co-indexed, in Google's feed logic, alongside an obituary from 2013, a tribute wall from a Louisiana funeral home dated 2016, and a Bloomingdale, Georgia obituary indexed earlier this month. Whether this reflects a shift in how the algorithm is weighting the feed, or an ordinary fluctuation, has not been determined. Google has not issued any public statement about how this feed is constructed.

What happens next

The open questions as of August 27, 2026: whether content predating June 2013 exists in the feed and has not yet surfaced; whether the two Tati-era articles will persist in subsequent pulls or cycle out as other entries have; whether the Christopher James Charles Poulos middle-name construction will recur with similar entries; and whether the apparent re-indexing of the Rader entry establishes a pattern of document recirculation distinct from the NZ Herald URL, which was already confirmed recycled three times. No statement from James Charles, Google, or any of the named funeral homes has been located.
