Sean Hannity Is Now Asking Chuck Schumer About Hasan Piker, and the New York Post Found Another Democrat With a Problem

Fox News prime time has entered the chat. A swing-district Michigan candidate has entered the chat. Reuters also had to show up, and darlings, that is never a good sign.

Darlings, when Sean Hannity starts addressing your friends by Senate leadership title on cable prime time, the situation has officially left the primary and become a national party liability.

Per an AOL recap of the Fox News segment, Hannity reportedly looked directly into a camera and asked, quote, "Chuck Schumer, are you good with this?" about a Hasan Piker comment. The segment's headline was "You're Breaking The Rules!" We do not have the full transcript, but the framing does the work.

Here, organized for your convenience, is the evidence that August 14 was not a great day for anyone who has ever stood within ten feet of this man:

  1. Hannity names Schumer on air (Fox News, August 14). The question asked was rhetorical. The answer, per the Democratic Party's continued silence, is allegedly yes. We wish the Senate minority leader strength in this trying time of someone else's making.
  2. The New York Post found a new target (August 14). According to the Post, a Michigan Democrat running in a competitive swing-district House race once publicly praised Piker, allegedly writing "You're the man!" The candidate's district is, per the Post's framing, a place Democrats actually need to win. Now that's a receipts story.
  3. Reuters published a fact-check (August 14). The wire service found it necessary to clarify that Piker's 9/11 remark was being misattributed to Abdul El-Sayed. Keep in mind: El-Sayed already called the comment "dumb" on Meet the Press. The fact that the misattribution spread far enough to require Reuters intervention is, a moment.
  4. The Baltimore Sun ran a "who is Hasan Piker" explainer (August 14). When a major regional paper has to explain a Twitch streamer to its readership because Democratic elected officials keep making that necessary, something has gone sideways. The headline: "Prominent streamer is dividing the Democratic Party." Not "allegedly dividing." Dividing.
  5. Jacobin published a response to James Carville (August 14). The socialist magazine's piece, titled "Help Us Break the Two-Party Stranglehold, James Carville," entered the discourse. Whether Carville reads Jacobin is unknown. Whether Jacobin's response changes any of this is also unknown. But the mutual awareness is a journey.

And if the Michigan swing-seat angle feels familiar, it's because El-Sayed's team spent the general election pivot trying to create exactly this kind of distance. Darling, that apparently did not stop the association from traveling downstream.

The audacity of becoming a Reuters fact-check subject without issuing a single correction is, honestly, a skill set.

Our prediction: whoever runs that Michigan swing-district race is about to have a very uncomfortable week on local television.

WHO'S INVOLVED: Hasan Piker
