One Democrat Said What the Others Were Thinking. They Just Said It With More Swearing.

A Dem candidate went profane defending Hasan Piker, Zeteo dropped 'the receipts' on the party's selective outrage, and the Washington Post called him a poison pill. Darlings, the week is not over.

While every elected Democrat with a functioning press secretary was busy issuing carefully worded statements of distance, one unnamed Democratic candidate apparently decided that careful wording was for other people. According to Fox News, the candidate erupted in a profane defense of Piker as the broader party pile-on continued Saturday, becoming a singular voice of dissent in what has otherwise been a remarkably unified chorus of condemnation. The audacity. The timing.

We do not have the full transcript of said eruption, but Fox News covered it, which means it is now eternal.

The profane defense landed on the same morning that Zeteo published what they are calling receipts: a piece arguing, per their reporting, that elected Democrats have been busy condemning Piker while quietly giving a pass to right-wing extremists and figures with documented Islamophobic records. It is a specific and pointed argument. Whether it changes any minds in the caucus is another matter, but it does mean that the anti-Piker pile-on now has a documented counter-narrative with sourcing, which is a different situation than last week.

And if this feels familiar, it is because Newsweek, Zeteo, and Jacobin were already pushing back on the Democratic pile-on as far back as August 26. The receipts are now apparently organized into a formal piece. Keep receipts, they said. Someone listened.

Meanwhile, the rest of the media did not slow down. The Washington Post dropped a piece calling Piker a "poison pill" for the party, per their framing. The Atlantic published what they are calling "Abdul El-Sayed's Hasan Piker Problem," a formulation that puts El-Sayed's name first, which is its own kind of editorial choice. The Hugh Hewitt Show, per its own reporting, argued that the Piker situation damages Democrats "far beyond Michigan." Hugh Hewitt, for the record, has now discussed Hasan Piker on multiple consecutive broadcast days. We wish him rest.

The international press has fully picked up the story. The Kuwait Times and Malay Mail both ran the wire on "Democrats wary of influencer Hasan Piker" on August 29. A Twitch streamer from California is now a news item in Southeast Asia and the Gulf. The Rolling Stone "Most Influential" list is doing something, darlings, even if nobody planned for it to do this.

Former RNC chairwoman, per Yahoo's reporting, said Piker is becoming a very "influential voice" on the left. She did not mean it as a compliment. Piker will almost certainly take it as one.

The week's total box score: the Washington Post, the Atlantic, international wire services, a profane pro-Piker Democrat, a Zeteo receipts document, and a former Republican Party chair acknowledging his reach. His Twitch subscriber count has not been reported as suffering. My loves, the scoreboard is doing exactly what the scoreboard does.

Prediction: the profane Dem will be identified by Monday, and whoever they are, they are about to find out what it is like to be the story.

WHO'S INVOLVED: Hasan Piker
