John Fetterman Just Blamed Hasan Piker for Making Him Question Whether He Should Stay a Democrat

Open on this, darlings: a sitting United States senator, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, reportedly told Real Clear Politics that Hasan Piker's presence in Democratic-adjacent spaces is making him wonder if he belongs in the party at all. That is not a subtweet. That is a quote.

Per Real Clear Politics, Fetterman's exact words were:

"Even Jewish organizations like J Street are doing events with Hasan Piker. It forces me to kind of re-evaluate, should I remain a Democrat?"

Fetterman, per Real Clear Politics, appears to have connected those two dots himself and did not love the picture they made.
3. The 'really scary and concerning' quote, per JNS (July 19). A former College Democrats leader told JNS the Piker invite was "really scary and concerning." Fetterman, it seems, shares the concern, though he chose to direct his anxiety at J Street rather than the college org.

Now, is Fetterman actually leaving the Democratic Party? Almost certainly not. The man has built an entire second-act brand on performative heterodoxy, and this tracks neatly with that project. But. The fact that Piker's name is now appearing in a sentence that contains the words "should I remain a Democrat" from an elected official is a genuinely new altitude for this particular drama.
