Jewish Dems Are Looking for a Way to Say Yes. A Clinton Veteran Says That's the Whole Problem. The Internet Had Thoughts.

September 3 brought a poll, a media-access question, a 2016 flashback, and a Community Note. Darlings, the discourse did not rest.

The Hasan Piker story entered its second week and the internet, apparently unfazed by the volume of words already written, produced several thousand more. Two things crystallized on September 3: the people who want this to go away are not finding an exit, and the people who want it to keep going are being handed new material roughly every four hours.

Start with Vox, which reported that a faction of Jewish Democrats is quietly trying to find a path to supporting Abdul El-Sayed despite the Piker entanglement. The framing, per the piece, is less forgiveness than pragmatism: a general election against Mike Rogers is real, and some donors and organizers are apparently doing the math. We love growth.

Kaivan Shroff, who worked on Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign, was not doing that math. His Chicago Tribune op-ed argued, according to the piece, that El-Sayed is repeating the exact strategic error that cost Democrats the last time: treating the activist-influencer coalition as a base to be managed rather than a liability to be cut. Shroff's read is that the refusal to draw a clean line is the mistake, not the association itself. And if this feels familiar, it's because the 2016 warnings sounded a lot like the ones being issued right now by everyone from Carville to former Biden staffers.

The Times of Israel cited a new poll reportedly showing US voters overwhelmingly reject both Piker and Candace Owens when named as political figures. The numbers, per the report, are not close. The Boston Herald's columnist described wary Democrats as now actively moving to "spike" Piker, which is a verb choice that suggests the memo has become an action item.

Zeteo, meanwhile, asked a genuinely different question: why won't mainstream media actually sit down and interview Hasan Piker? The piece, per its framing, positions the cable-news pile-on as analysis conducted entirely without the subject present, which it argues is its own kind of editorial choice. Interesting timing to raise that when the clip inventory is this deep, but the question is real.

Then there is the Community Note situation. According to the Times of India, a Community Note surfaced on one of Piker's posts flagging questions about his financial background, and Piker responded on the record, saying he started working when he was broke. The audacity of having a net worth discourse in the middle of a 9/11-anniversary antisemitism controversy is, genuinely, a journey.

El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers also agreed to a second debate this fall, per the Detroit News, which means El-Sayed's Piker problem now has a debate stage and a date attached to it. My loves, keep receipts. Someone is going to say his name out loud under studio lights and the clip will run for a very long time.

Bernie Sanders told someone that 'a few' Democrats want El-Sayed to lose. Democrats pushed back on that, per Politico. The pushback landed approximately nowhere.
