Fishtank Live operates as a continuous social experiment in which nearly every authority figure the fish encounter is, by design, lying to them. Goldstriker is a character. Ben is a character. The wires in the bedrooms are fake, and Jet is the one who tells the fish they are not. The structure of the show depends on someone the cast will actually trust, which means the structure of the show depends on Jet.

This is not a small thing. It is, arguably, the whole thing.

When the house was swatted during Season 1, Jet posted to his Instagram story. Not production. Not a PR account. Jet, personally, addressing the audience. Documents reviewed by this publication, specifically screenshots archived on Know Your Meme, show that response landing in the middle of genuine off-camera chaos. He was the human face attached to a show that otherwise goes to considerable lengths to obscure its human faces.

And when Season 5 needed a live rollout with collaborator JD back in March 2026, who was on camera? Jet. Again.

The discourse around Fishtank fixates on Sam Hyde, on Goldstriker, on whatever the fish themselves are doing. Jet gets treated as infrastructure. He is not infrastructure.
