James Charles's Google News Feed Has Now Recruited a 100-Year-Old Argentine Newspaper

Explicit spam attributed to Clarin.com landed in the feed on October 5. Jim Bakker's obituary wave arrived the next day. The algorithm remains unbothered.

On October 5, an entry formatted as explicit spam, carrying the title pattern that has now appeared in this feed four times since September, was indexed in James Charles's Google News feed. The attributed domain this time was Clarin.com. Clarin is Argentina's largest daily newspaper, founded in 1945, with a print and digital circulation that makes it one of the most-read Spanish-language outlets in the world. Google routed one of its URLs into a beauty creator's news aggregator alongside content about eyeshadow tutorials and brand controversies.

For the record, previous spam entries in this same feed were attributed to Cal Poly Pomona on September 11, Loughborough University on September 12, the Quebec provincial health authority on September 14, and a Czech government investment agency domain on September 24. Each time, the domain was institutional or governmental. Clarin.com marks the first instance of a major commercial news operation being used as the vehicle. Whether that reflects a shift in method or coincidence is not established.

The feed did not stop there. On October 6, two additional entries surfaced. The first was a People.com article headlined "What to Know About Late Televangelist Jim Bakker's 7 Children." Jim Bakker died in 2025. The article contains no mention of James Charles the YouTube creator. The apparent trigger is the name "James" appearing somewhere in the indexing logic, which is, at this point, a familiar mechanism. The feed has previously pulled in the Jackson Advocate's coverage of civil rights figure James Charles Evers, a Roya News reprint about Gaza, an MMA fight card from Mshale, and a Spirit Airlines piece from May. Jim Bakker's family history is a reasonable next entry in that sequence.

The second October 6 entry was an obituary for James "Bo" Turley Jr., filed through Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mansfield, Missouri and indexed via Legacy.com. Turley's first name is not James. His middle name, rendered in quotation marks as "Bo," suggests his legal first name may be James. That would be sufficient for the feed to claim him.

The obituary count in this feed now spans multiple states and funeral home networks. Entries have been drawn from Klein Funeral Homes, Draeger-Langendorf, Weigel Funeral Home in Swanton, Ohio, Oak Meadow Cremation in Warren, Ohio, and now Craig-Hurtt in Mansfield, Missouri. The geographic spread is not concentrated in any region. The common variable is the name.

James Charles, the creator, has not addressed any of this publicly. His last documented comment on a feed-related topic was September 10, when he responded to a P!nk and Macklemore photo mix-up. Nothing in the monitored record connects him to Clarin.com, Jim Bakker, or Bo Turley Jr. of Mansfield.

What happens next: it is not known whether Google has received any formal complaint about the spam entries attributed to institutional and commercial domains, or whether any of those domains have been notified of the attribution. The rate of new entries, averaging roughly one to two per week since late August, has not slowed. Whether the Clarin.com entry represents a one-time domain use or a recurring source has not been established.
