He Showed Up. Ilhan Omar Showed Up. Jesse Ventura Showed Up. The Minneapolis Event Happened.
Every Democrat who begged them not to do this is watching the recap right now. Hasan Piker and Ilhan Omar took the stage in Minneapolis anyway, security detail and all.
Security flanking him on the way out of the theater. That is the image that landed on r/LivestreamFail late Tuesday, and darlings, it is a lot of image.
After weeks of Democratic hand-wringing, Star Tribune op-eds, Amy Klobuchar statements, Jewish group press releases, and what felt like half the Minnesota DFL begging everyone involved to pull the plug, the Minneapolis event featuring Hasan Piker, Rep. Ilhan Omar, and state Sen. Omar Fateh went ahead exactly as planned. Per CBS News and MPR News, the three of them shared a stage and spoke. That is the whole story. It happened.
The audacity, if you are the people who spent the last seven days insisting it would not. And yet.
Per the New York Post, Omar allegedly joked on stage with Piker that her "good looks" are the reason the media stays so fixated on her, this while a federal probe into her activities is, per previous reporting, ongoing. Now is that a politically wise joke to make in front of a streaming audience that will clip it immediately? We wish her strength in this trying time of her own making. But also, per the clip as described, the crowd reportedly loved it.
Then Jesse Ventura walked in. The former Minnesota governor, per an X post now circulating in news aggregators, told Piker directly that what "pisses him off" is doing two tours in Southeast Asia for seventeen months while Donald Trump was, in Ventura's alleged words, "running and hiding like the coward he is." Whether Ventura was a planned guest or a bonus character nobody briefed the DFL on is unclear. Either way, Fox News now has a full evening's worth of content and MPR News had to file a second story.
And if this feels familiar, it is because Piker has spent the better part of two years demonstrating that the louder Democrats tell him to go away, the more press the event gets. The BBC asked him this week if he is a "liability for the Dems." He showed up in Minneapolis anyway. That is the answer.
The coverage radius by Tuesday night was genuinely something: CNN, CBS News, Star Tribune, MPR News, Fox News, NewsNation, The Australian calling on conservatives to build their own influencer pipeline, and a Weekly Times quote describing Omar's decision to appear as her being "probably desperate." Darlings, that last one is doing a lot of work from very far away.
The side drama: the Free Beacon reported Tuesday that Piker's uncle is allegedly behind a Michigan Senate ad blaming Israel for egg prices, which the outlet called a "case study in antisemitism." Piker has not, per available signal, responded to that one yet. Keep receipts.
Meanwhile on Reddit, Piker's subreddit was allegedly reporting an organized brigading campaign against him in the Gorillaz community, which is a sentence that belongs in a 2026 time capsule. The claim, per r/Hasan_Piker, is that "Sex Destiny fans" are flooding the Gorillaz subreddit with negative posts about Hasan. Unverified. Extremely online. Moving on.
The event is done. The clips are out. The Star Tribune has its story. One week before the midterms, Hasan Piker rallied progressives in Minneapolis with a sitting congresswoman, a state senator, and the former governor of Minnesota doing his best angry-veteran impression. Whether that helps anyone on the ballot is a question for November 3rd. What it definitely did was make HasanAbi the most-covered streamer in American political media for the fifteenth consecutive news cycle.
The conservatives building their counter-influencer pipeline had better hurry up.
