Darlings, the primary is over and yet the drama has not gotten the memo. Two new signals dropped this week that deserve their own clean accounting, so here it is.

What Piker said. According to reporting from Fox News and Yahoo, Piker called for Democrats who opposed Abdul El-Sayed during the Michigan primary to be punished. Not forgiven, not engaged with. Punished. The word is his, per the clips.

Who he means. The signal does not name specific targets beyond the general category of establishment Democrats who backed Haley Stevens. Piker has already called that faction "Islamophobic shits" at the victory party, per prior reporting, so this is less a new posture than a next step in the same posture.

What We Know: Carville Fires Back

The new word is "vicious." According to AOL and associated wire coverage dated August 9, James Carville is now characterizing progressive Democrats' pressure campaign against him as "vicious." He has stopped short of actually leaving the party, despite a week of threats to do exactly that, per the Bernie Sanders exchange already on the record.

This is not a soft pivot. Carville spent the last several days being mocked by Piker and El-Sayed on national television, per Fox News reporting from August 8. And if this feels familiar, it is because Carville has been predicting Democratic doom via the left flank since approximately 2022. A journey with no known destination.

What We Don't Know

Whether any of this moves votes. The Michigan primary is over. The general is what matters now, and nobody on either side of this argument has explained how calling each other vicious and Islamophobic helps El-Sayed win a general election in Michigan.
