The man is preparing to sue two cable news hosts, his brother's security clearances have been airdropped into the news cycle, and a sitting congressman sent him formal condolences. So naturally, Hasan Piker took the stage at a live podcast show and sang a mocking song called "We Are Charlie Kirk." Per clips circulating on X as of August 22, that is not a metaphor. He sang.

The performance, allegedly captured at a live show amid the weeks-long blitz of backlash, shows Piker leaning into the chaos rather than away from it. Which, fine, commit to the bit. The clip spread fast enough that Fox News had its own write-up by August 23, framing it as further evidence of Piker's, let's call it, unconventional political energy. The framing was not flattering. The coverage was, once again, enormous.

And if this feels familiar, it's because the entire arc of the last ten days has been Piker doing or saying something that feeds the exact machine he claims is smearing him. He told Channel 4 the country needs a "socialist Trump." He called Hamas "far more moderate" in a clip that Fox ran wall to wall. He issued a "good luck" challenge to Democratic critics and predicted Fox wouldn't book him because it would be "ratings gold." Fox has, in fact, not stopped talking about him. Hugh Hewitt went on air and admitted, out loud, that he cannot stop. That is not a flex for either party, and yet here we are.

The Kirk song is the latest installment in what is becoming a very specific Piker strategy: when the pile-on is at maximum volume, escalate the provocation. It is either very smart parasocial judo or a man genuinely enjoying himself while the Democratic Party has a quiet breakdown around him. Possibly both. His supporters will clip it as fearless. His critics, who already called him a maniac in the Washington Examiner and hate-filled in the New York Daily News this same week, will add it to the indictment.

What it unambiguously does is hand Fox another twenty-four hours of content at a moment when Piker's legal team is presumably trying to build a defamation case that requires projecting some dignity. A moment. The suit against Scott Jennings and Harris Faulkner is still formally in preparation as of August 17. It is hard to argue you've been gravely harmed by mockery while simultaneously performing original comedy about Charlie Kirk for a live audience, but lawyers are creative people and we wish them strength.

The rightwing press is not the only audience watching. Democrats spent the week either defending Piker as a youth-outreach asset or running from the "Hasan Piker Democrat" label that Rick Scott has been staple-gunning to anyone within range. Ro Khanna said ditching Piker would show weakness. Jared Moskowitz won his primary anyway and immediately pivoted to attacking the DSA. None of them, it is safe to say, were hoping for a Kirk song drop this weekend.

The follower count stays up. The controversy stays louder. The Kirk song is already a Fox chyron. My loves, the man is playing a game where all press is good press, and he is not wrong that it is working, even if "working" and "good for everyone involved" are doing very different jobs in that sentence.
