Daily Kos Just Called Hasan Piker a 'Trust Fund' Revolutionary and the Left Has Entered Full Circular Firing Squad Mode

The right hating Hasan Piker is a genre. The left eating Hasan Piker is a story.

Daily Kos, darlings, not Fox News, not the ADL, not the Wisconsin State Journal opinion page (though that too, more in a moment), published a piece on July 11th headlined "Why Hasan Piker Doesn't Impress Me: A Progressive's Case Against the Left's Favorite 'Trust Fund' Revolutionary." Read that slowly. A progressive outlet, the progressive outlet that your aunt who canvasses for Democrats bookmarks, called him a trust fund revolutionary and made it a whole argument.

This is the angle that actually stings. Fox News calling him dangerous is a compliment to his audience. The ADL weighing in on his Zionism definition is a culture war round-trip ticket. But Daily Kos questioning whether he represents anything real? That lands differently. That lands at home.

Meanwhile the Wisconsin State Journal ran an op-ed the same day arguing that Francesca Hong's Piker stream appearance proved she is simply "not ready" for higher office. Hong, who was already doing the awkward shuffle of distancing herself from the stream while not wanting to alienate the viewers it delivered, now has a local newspaper columnist making the case that the association itself is disqualifying. Fox News was gleefully reporting her downplaying it on July 9th. The pile-on has a hometown dateline now.

And if this feels familiar, it's because the pattern is consistent: Piker adjacent, then Piker apologetic, then Piker liability. We've watched it with McMorrow's dropout fallout, with the CNN grilling, with Hong's own prior hedging. The association costs are not theoretical anymore.

The trust fund critique is not new gossip. Piker has addressed his family money (yes, his uncle is Cenk Uygur, yes, he grew up comfortable, yes, he has discussed this publicly). But the Daily Kos framing is a signal about where progressive media's patience is. We love growth but the left doing this particular audit, publicly, in this particular week, is its own news.
