Bernie Sanders Just Told James Carville to Start His Own Party, and Hasan Piker Is Having the Night of His Life

Hasan Piker showed up to Abdul El-Sayed's Michigan Senate primary watch party on August 5 and, according to reports, spent the evening slamming Democratic leadership in front of cameras. At the watch party. Not on stream. At the actual political event, with the candidate standing nearby.

And El-Sayed, for his part, defended the relationship publicly. Per reporting from Yahoo, he did not flinch. He did not issue a careful statement about how he welcomes support from all corners. He just... defended it. Haley Stevens, his rival, had been demanding he "distance himself" from Piker. El-Sayed apparently filed that advice directly in the trash.

Then Bernie Sanders walked into the conversation and told James Carville to go start his own party. Per Yahoo News, Sanders issued that dare publicly, after what outlets are describing as a slew of progressive primary victories. Carville, you may recall, had been threatening to leave the Democratic Party over Piker's growing influence. Now the man being told to leave is Carville.

If this feels familiar, it's because Piker called this. The "zero percent chance" the 2028 nominee is pro-Israel prediction, the stumping with Ilhan Omar and Francesca Hong in Milwaukee, the rally the night before the Michigan primary. Every move in the last two weeks has been a bet that the party's center of gravity is shifting, and right now, tonight, the receipts are going his way.

Politico reports Piker is upbeat about El-Sayed and the broader left-wing trajectory. We love growth. We love a man who is upbeat about himself.

The Washington Times ran a piece today noting that rising Democrats are standing by a streamer who once said America "deserved" 9/11. That framing is meant to be damaging. Whether it lands as damage or as a credential depends entirely on which primary electorate you are asking. Tonight's answer, my loves, appears to be the latter.
