Bam Margera Is Not Having a Comeback. He Is Having Something Better.

That's the take. Bam Margera as Season 5 host was, on paper, the kind of decision that sounds insane until it works completely. And by every indication surfacing in the discourse right now, it is working. Not in a "look how far he's come" way. In a "this is exactly who this person has always been" way, which is actually more interesting.

Consider the current situation. Bam is navigating a genuinely ugly press cycle, with assault trial coverage and Jackass political fallout and Rolling Stone calling him the Britney Spears of skateboarding culture. Meanwhile, a thread appeared on 4chan's /tv/ board on July 21 titled, in full, "I'M BAM MARGERA, AND THIS IS READ GOOSEBUMPS AFTER BEDTIME WITH THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF." That is the Jackass intro format. That is a compliment. That is the internet telling you they still find you funny and chaotic and worth their time, which is about the highest honor that particular constituency can bestow.

The Fishtank casting happened before any of this. Production announced him on March 10, 2026, months before the Jackass press cycle heated up, months before the trial ruling, months before the death hoax thread. They made that call based on what they saw in Season 4, where Bam showed up, skateboarded in a living room in front of strangers, had a good enough time that he came back the next day, and apparently endeared himself to the cast in the process. That is the entire audition. That is all Fishtank needed to see.

The mistake most outlets are making right now is treating all of this as parallel tracks. The legal stuff over here, the nostalgia press over there, the streaming gig as some separate chapter. It is not separate. It is the same guy, at the same time, and the picture it draws is of someone who is genuinely more interesting at this stage of his life than he was at peak MTV budget. Fishtank understood that before anyone else wrote a single word about it.

Sam Hyde built the show. Bam Margera is, improbably, a natural successor. Not because he is reformed or recovered or any of the words the press keeps reaching for. Because he is still, constitutionally, a person who will skateboard in your living room if you let him. That quality does not expire. Fishtank bet on it, and so far the bet looks right.
