A Very Famous Streamer Has Graduated From Cable News Punchline to Glossy Think-Piece Subject, and Honey, That Is an Escalation
When Air Mail and Fox News are asking the same question on the same Friday, you have officially become A Conversation.
Somewhere out there, a very online, very velvet-jacketed political agitator who spent last week getting named in a State Department document and telling a sitting New York City mayor to pipe down has just unlocked a new and arguably more dangerous media tier.
Not the outrage tier. The think-piece tier.
Air Mail, which is the publication your college roommate's mother reads on a Bridgehampton porch, published a piece on July 25th asking whether this particular Twitch streamer is genuinely good for the Democratic Party. Fox News, running the same question through a different filter the same morning, called his rise divisive within the party. Darlings, when your name appears in Air Mail and Fox News on the same Friday and both outlets are treating you as a serious political variable, you have stopped being a curiosity and started being a reckoning.
We are speaking, per both outlets, about Hasan Piker. The man has gone from streaming chair to establishment hand-wringing in approximately ten days. We'd call that a promotion.
